Welcome!

The Department Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries was established in April 2009 from the two teaching departments that existed in the former Faculty of Aquatic Sciences and Technology (FAST) following the restructuring of the University of Dar es Salaam that resulted in merging of FAST and the former Faculty of Science (FoS) to form the College of Natural and Applied Sciences (CoNAS). It is now one of the eight teaching departments in CoNAS and comprises of 18 academic staff (15 of whom are Ph.D. holders) and 12 technical staff.

The breadth and scope of Department of Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries (DASF) encompasses programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and public services in basic and applied aquatic sciences with an emphasis on fisheries management and aquatic resource conservation. Our staff and students have access to myriad of freshwater and marine aquatic habitats and rich biological resources, and they are involved in interdisciplinary partnerships with other academic programmes within and outside the University, as well as public and private organizations in fisheries and aquatic sciences.

The department offers four academic programmes:

* Diploma in Fisheries (2 years)
* B.Sc. in Fisheries and Aquaculture (3 years)
* B.Sc. in Aquatic Environmental Science and Conservation (3 years)
* The Department also offers postgraduate programmes leading to M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Aquatic Sciences (By thesis).
